Choosing the Length of Your Handmade Silver Necklace

Posted by: silverjewelryblog on: July 22, 2010

Handmade silver necklaces, like their machine-made cousins, come in all lengths and sizes. Ideally, we should each have several of varying lengths, to be worn on different occasions. But given the current economy, not all of us can afford to buy a new machine-made or handmade silver necklace every time the season changes. In particular, handmade silver necklaces can be slightly more expensive than machine-manufactured ones, because of the time and care that go into their making. So if you can choose one, and only one, handmade silver necklace, keep these thoughts in mind.

Silver Necklace

Where will you be wearing your silver necklace? If you’re looking for something to lend you a veneer of polished professionalism, a look that will help you close deals and influence colleagues, choose a silver necklace of medium length. A silver necklace that falls just above the bust will draw all eyes toward your face without being distracting. It will also nicely augment the neckline of your office-worthy blouse or dress.

When will you be wearing your silver necklace? If, on the other hand, you’re hankering to find just the silver necklace to fit in the “blank” left by the plunging neckline of that evening dress, then look for a silver necklace of dramatically longer length. The current trend in silver necklaces of large or varied-size links is the perfect thing to set off a seemingly benign little black dress. On the other hand, a long silver necklace with a chunky onyx pendant will be an eye-popper when paired with that flaming red dress.

With what will you be wearing your silver necklace? But perhaps you’re needing none of the above and prefer, instead, to emulate the look of Julia Roberts in “Pretty Woman”. Nothing goes better with jeans, a man-tailored white blouse, and a sharp blue blazer than a short, even choker-length silver necklace – preferably accented with pearls. You’ll also do fine with a neck-capping short silver necklace of geometric-shaped beads, or a silver necklace with a gemstone whose hue complements your eyes.

The handmade silver necklace “clincher”: Last but not least, the beauty of a handmade silver jewellery – especially one that is both custom-made and handmade – is that you can ask the jeweller to use a variable-length clasp. This sort of clasp usually consists of a hook that affixes to any one of several smaller silver links that continue past the part of the silver necklace that is meant to be seen.  With such a clasp, you’ll be able to wear your necklace to the office, to the opera – or out onto a fire escape to await your Prince Charming.

Great blog very informative, I have bookmarked your blog, and I will come back often.

Thanks

Handmade necklaces are great, but be sure to ask to have the links fused (welded). Otherwise they can pull open with surprising ease!
